"Why would you want to move there?"
And we reply:
But we also both know it's about more than just fish and mountains. It's about finding a balance between his sagebrush roots and my need for trees. It's about seeing that river every day. There are so many already built communities in the West, move-in ready. People my age drift in and out of happy hours and city-built hiking trails in these so-called perfect towns, ungrounded and unsatisfied. But some places still need building. Some places, even on Main Street, trucks still stop and let you cross the street. Some places show their grit on the outside rather than closing it off into neighborhoods and bubbles. We want to chose there because we the see the pace, the priorities and the love of the people already there and we agree it's the people we want to become.
I've been that ungrounded and unsatisfied person. Moving is such a pain and your shit is your shit, it will follow you. But this time, it also feels different. Settled. Right.
